Municipal Website (concept)

This concept for a standard municipal website was developed as part of the AGI UX Certificate program.

Currently, municipalities across the commonwealth manage their own websites. They are responsible for all aspects of the process; from procurement to operation, and content management. In addition it requires trained staff to operate and maintain.

The visual disparity between each municipality’s website is vast and is void of a state brand presence. In addition the UI is often overwhelming and not up to date in accessibility standards or best practices.

What if instead the resources were pooled by the municipalities and directed to the state to develop a standardized website template.

The user interface would become familiar across the state. A fresh approach to UI using the latest best practices could reduce the clutter and make the experience more approachable. A consistent visual experience with state brand elements would welcome visitors.

Consolidating the development and updating with the state ensures consistency, best practices and a more economic and sustainable approach to technology.
